The Godfather

Your Godfather bike tour starts at our headquarters in Giardini Naxos. We will take care to set up the bikes according to your sizes and needs. After the initial briefing, we will go to the destination. 

This bike tour is created for all those who prefer the safety of fat tires on asphalt, and for those who do not have the right technique to face the off-road. In fact, the most part of the route will be on asphalted road. It a very scenic bike ride through the fishing villages and picturesque places. We will first reach the promontories called Capo Taormina well worth of photo stop thanks to the lovely scenery on the Northeast side of Mount Etna reflected in the waters of Bay of Giardini Naxos.

After a few hundred of meters, we meet another Sicilian wonder – the Isola Bella. From there, for about 10 km we’ll go northbound on a panoramic road that runs along the coastline until the Cape of Sant Alessio – a superb fortress overhanging the sea.

Once we reach the seaside village of Sant Alessio Siculo, we will start our light off road track by a cycleway that goes up the river. That is the filming location of the first meeting between Mike Corleone and Apollonia in the famous “Godfather 1”. After a few kilometers, we are at one of few Byzantine churches on Sicily. The first stone of that Church of St Peter and Paul d’Agrò was laid about 1500 years ago.

From there the most challenging part of our mountain bike tour starts. We will ride up the hill by an old link road, which brings us straight to the village of Casalvecchio Siculo.

The difficulty lies in the gradient that in some parts rises up to 15% but it is still quite an easy track.

Crossed the old town center, we will stop for a coffee and a typical local dessert made of almonds and oranges called “nzuddri”. Next, we will go to the town of Savoca – the true film set of “Godfather” movie. The most important scenes, such as marriage proposal at the famous Bar Vitelli, marriage itself of Mike Corleone and Apollonia and many others were filmed in that little corner of paradise.

From that point, we return to our home base passing through the small seaside villages.

The tour has a medium-high difficulty for the muscle bikes and medium-low difficulty for E-mtb. During the ride, we will have some short but steep ascents. However, any special technical skills are not required to tackle that route.
